Erin Mae Teaching Policies

Policies effective January 2019

Private mountain dulcimer lessons will be in my home studio at 1808 N Heiserman, Wichita, KS unless other arrangements are made.  Each lesson is 60 minutes and costs $50 (GPDA members receive a discount and pay $40/hour).  Payment may be made by cash, check, or credit card after each lesson.

Online mountain dulcimer lessons will be taught via Zoom. You will receive the link for your Zoom meeting when you book your lesson. One-time lessons are 60 minutes and cost $50. Monthly lessons require a minimum 3-month commitment and are $40/hour. Young students often do better with 45 minute lessons every week or every other week -- these are $30/lesson. Lessons will be scheduled and payments made using Fons through my website.

All instructional materials will be provided by me. Online students will receive .pdf files via email. Students will not be expected to purchase any books unless they choose to do so.

If for some reason you need to cancel a lesson, please do so 24-hours before your lesson.  Failure to do so will result in you being charged for the lesson, even if you are not present.

Scholarships

Scholarships are available to students who ask for them. The following requirements apply:

  1. Student must write a brief essay about why mountain dulcimer lessons are important to them. This essay may be shared with Erin’s Patreon supporters, who provide the funding for the scholarships. A photograph of the student with their dulcimer is also requested, but not required.

  2. Scholarship funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, as funds are available. Students may receive no more than $40/week, which covers a one-hour lesson.

  3. One time per year, scholarship students will be asked to write “Thank You” cards to up to six patrons who fund the scholarships.

  4. Scholarships will be given for up to one year at a time. After one year, the student must re-apply and funding will be re-evaluated.

  5. Erin Mae’s standard teaching policies apply to all scholarship students. Those policies are included above.
