Playing By Patterns - Chromatic MD
6 Weeks - Chromatic
Service Description
**Chromatic Mountain Dulcimers are fretted entirely in half steps (more like a guitar than a traditional mountain dulcimer). All course materials include tablature numbered diatonically (0, 0+, 1, 1+, etc) and chromatically (0, 1, 2, 3, etc.)** Learning note names and reading tablature can be very helpful for playing the chromatic mountain dulcimer, but the best tool I’ve found for mastery of the fretboard is to play by patterns. Together, we’ll explore some of my favorite patterns, first in the key of D, then played around the Circle of 5ths. By the end of the course, you’ll not only be more comfortable skipping over the “extra” frets in the key of D, but also in using those notes to play in any key. You’ll have a few chord progressions under your fingers, and be able to play several tunes as well. This course is geared toward relatively new chromatic dulcimer players, but all levels are welcome.
