Learning Songs from the Radio

Service Description

**Repertoire courses focus on learning songs and tunes, along with the history and social context of the music. Arrangements are generally presented with a scaffolded approach so that novice to advanced students can all participate.** Has this happened to you? You are listening to your favorite radio station and a fantastic song starts playing. Your toes are tapping and head is bobbing. You think "I would love to play this on my dulcimer". You begin looking for resources - Song books? Instructional videos? Maybe some tab? Nothing. Learning to play popular music is on the wish list for many students, but dulcimer-specific resources can be hard (if not impossible) to find. In this class, we'll explore a variety of tools and methods for learning songs from recorded sources. Learn about playing from chord charts, lead sheets, and playing by ear. We will also talk about transposing music, using a capo, re-tuning, and playing different rhythms. Along the way, we’ll learn some of YOUR favorite contemporary songs!
