Service Description

This 6-week intensive course is all about helping you find the freedom to improvise with your instrument on the fly. The recipe for fluid improvisation merges creativity and self-expression with ear training and practiced patterns, combining rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic possibilities. Each week, we’ll use one simple tune as the starting point of our musical exploration. Erin Mae will provide concrete examples of improvisational ideas: changing the accent placement or groove, adding pentatonic scale licks or in-between notes, substituting minor chords or adding 7ths, etc. Then, you will explore your own ideas — and remember there are no wrong notes in improvisation, so this course is perfect for anyone with a sense of curiosity and desire to explore their instrument.. Refine your Technique by improvising with a tune each time you pick up your mountain dulcimer! **Refining Technique Courses are designed for players who are confident at learning new music and comfortable with their instruments, ready to dig deeper into the nuances of musical expression and understanding. They are geared toward upper-intermediate to advanced players, but all levels with a deep commitment to learning are welcome.**
