Down to the River To Pray

Service Description
“Down to the River To Pray” was made famous by the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”, but it is a very old folk hymn, also known as “Down in the Valley to Pray” and “The Good Old Way". We’ll learn to play the melody in the key of D (tuned DAd). The simple, repetitive, and familiar tune makes it great for learning by ear! We’ll also look at ways to transpose it as needed to put it in a comfortable singing key for your voice. The focus of Tea and a Tune is learning tunes by rote -- using your ear, your eyes, and a gentle play-after-me-method. You will learn the tune without sheet music in front of you! Even people who struggle to play by ear will find that they are able to play and memorize these tunes! Sheet music will be provided upon completion of the live class. Classes will be recorded, and all registered participants will have access to the recording for at least 1 year. Make yourself a cup of tea, relax, and join friends in learning a tune.
