Erin Mae’s solo performances are both entertaining and educational. She weaves the history of the mountain dulcimer, and traditional American music, with stories and experiences from her personal life. Audiences find themselves laughing at absurd old-time lyrics, yet weeping with the beauty of a poignant melody.
Erin Mae is right at home in a variety of venues; including festivals, house concerts, coffee shops, weddings and more. The music is all acoustic, and can be instrumental-only or include singing. Repertoire includes (but is not limited to) old-time fiddle tunes, hymns, Irish music, and bluegrass. Classical and jazz pieces may also be arranged.
Erin Mae delights in sharing the legacy of traditional American music with the next generation. Children’s programming includes education regarding the mountain dulcimer, history of American music and culture, and interactive sing-a-longs. Programs may also include simple folk dance and a chance for the students to try playing a mountain dulcimer; class-size permitting.
Erin Mae has brought American music education into public schools, homeschool co-ops, public libraries, churches, foster care programs, and summer camps. Most programs are created for 1-Hour sessions, though arrangements can be made for extended programming -- Week-long programs, monthly classes, or two-day intensives are available.
Erin Mae’s introduction to music recording began with her family in 1999. Moving forward, she has recorded eight full-length albums and laid tracks for several different projects. Mountain dulcimer provides a unique sound adding rich depth to any record and can be heard in many genres; including classical, folk, jazz, blues, and rock ‘n roll. It has been known to turn up in old rag-time, gospel, and even Cajun music.
Erin Mae provides accompaniment rhythm, melody, or filler parts. She is fluent in standard music notation and Nashville Number charts, can play and transpose any key easily. She also has experience in arranging for studio recording. Through use of local recording studios and the internet; no longer is there a need to be in the studio (or states) to add a mountain dulcimer to your project with Erin Mae.
